TRANSFORMATION OF MILADA HORÁKOVÁ PARK / OSTRAVA

The park is indivisible from the neighbouring cultural centre and the concert hall.
Art is woven into the fabric of Milada Horáková Park: the sculptures define its identity.
Here, people live and breathe art.

The new concert hall enhances the cultural significance of the space, which extends naturally into the park. This area forms the heart of the park. The design retains the existing main axis of the park, which culminates in a water feature, and introduces secondary axes to connect key routes. A romantic ribbon-like path connects the individual sculptures, allowing visitors to enjoy the park’s varied atmospheres. In homage to the nearby Jewish cemetery, the circle is used as a symbol of eternity.

A QR code-based information system makes the existing sculptures accessible to the public, while also allowing the introduction of new virtual artworks and connections with events held in the concert hall. A new monumental play sculpture representing Milada Horáková – an abstract portrait composed of geometric segments – is also introduced. Environmental considerations are central to the design. This is why we use a whole range of biotopes, from water bodies and shrub structures to clumps of deadwood and herbaceous vegetation. The park is designed to accommodate both active use and the preservation of ecologically valuable elements.
